The LIFE College in Schiedam has been built for the Lentiz Educationalgroup. The educational building lies in the development area Schieveste, which is a strip of ground wedged between an intensively used railway line and the A20 - one of the busiest motorways in the Netherlands.
The LIFE college in Schiedam consists of two constructive and technical installation cores that carry the sports department on the uppermost floor (5th floor). The 12,000m² gross floor area building is used for senior secondary vocational education and preparatory vocational secondary education. Technology classes, a kitchen classroom, a workshop kitchen, a science classroom, a care classroom and three sport halls are housed by the building.
The building is connected to a thermal energy storage system. The climate control systems have been designed to heat at low temperatures and to cool at high temperatures. Floor heating is used for heat distribution. The cold distribution is done via pre-chilled ventilation air. In addition the floor heating system has been prepared for floor cooling.
